My name is Rasmus Strand and I've been a consultant at Tech-Huset for 5 years. One of the most exciting projects I have been working on is for LP Kolding, in which I designed 26 stainless steel tanks. I am a trained production technologist and work as a technical consultant, where I do 3D modeling within the machine industry.
“I like being part of Tech-Huset because it gives me the flexibility and freedom that I enjoy. I also find it attractive that they try to have good social interaction with their consultants.”
My name is Rasmus Strand and I am a technical consultant within the machine industry.
I have been employed at Tech-Huset from day one, in fact I already started a few months before we got a name. Hence, I am one of the "old" Techhusians. It has been an incredibly cool and fun journey to be a part of right from the start and now almost 5 years later I am still incredibly happy to be part of Tech-Huset.
As a consultant, I have been posted to an incredible number of places, which has given me a wide range of experience that I have acquired over time. I have designed everything from high-voltage masts, fish breeding systems, sewage treatment plants. and now pressure tanks. It's varies alot which programs I draw in, as it different from company to company what their preferences are. Often it switches between SolidWorks and Inventor, but some also still draw in AutoCAD.
At LP-Kolding, I started by helping them with their project involving the delivery of 26 tanks.
It is always an agile process, where we work with the customer's requirements and wishes as well as having to make it work in practice. It has been fun to be part of the project at LP-Kolding, because even though I had to make 26 tanks, not all the tanks were the same. Hence, there have been adjustments and changes, as the tanks have always had to be able to do something different.
What I do is make 3D-modelling, which is then converted into production and assembly drawings, for the stainless steel pressure tanks to be produced afterwards.
I have certainly been able to learn something new during the time I have been at LP-Kolding. One of the things I have learned is their special way of drawing in general. It's very innovative for me and not something I've experienced before. It's cool to learn new ways to solve constructions and drawings - and that there are more options and solutions within my own field.
I have always liked things which are not too trivial and monotonous.
By being part of Tech-Huset, it gives me the opportunity to try out many different disciplines and challenge and expand my drawing skills all at the same time. One of the many things that I like is that you get around to many different companies and industries and try something different to be constantly challenged. I don't get to do the same thing all the time and have a day that's purely routine based.
Trying something different also means that I get to build up a broad palette of experience and skills, which I can work with on the next project to come, e.g. at another company.
The experience and expertise I acquire in the various places where I am employed for a certain project, I can collect and contribute to a new place.
Of course, it is always different how the companies work, what their process is like or maybe the way they draw, but it is super interesting to experience and have to adapt. I think this also helps to make it interesting to be a consultant, as you develop both your professional knowledge and your understanding in relation to know-how. In my case, an even deeper understanding of stainless steel, bending and the strength in metals etc.
I thrive in having the opportunity to work flexibly and versatile with the skills I have and to be able to develop them all the time.
Some of what I think Tech-Huset does very well is their social initiatives such as the Friday bar, where there is always a good and informal atmosphere. We also throw a summer and Christmas party, which all help to strengthen unity.
